Course Reflective Narratives
In my fall semester of 2022, I took the course Span 304: Introduction to Hispanic Literature with Dr. Pablo Oliva. In this course, we explored the literary movement of Spanish natives and medieval culture in Spain. The literary boom of the generation of 98 helped us better understand the literary movement that took place in those years. For example, some of the movements we learned about included romanticism, mystical, poetic, modernist, and avant-garde. We examined the types of literary genres and distinguished poetry from a literary genre during class. We explored the main parts that make up poetry, how to analyze and discuss poems to better understand the significance of each poem. One of the literary analyses that I liked during the class was "La noche boca arriba" by Julio Cortázar. We explored the issue of two world and two realities, which world was the real one, and challenges readers to better understand the differences between the ideologies of each characters. Another discussion that I liked in class was how to distinguish poetry from a literary genre. Introducción a la poesía. In this topic, we saw the structure of a poem and the fundamental parts that make it up. For one of our assignments, we were tasked to choose an author and analyze the structure of the poem, my partners' and I chose "Soneto" by José de Espronceda. These lessons helped me better understand, have better knowledge, and expand my ideology. Many of the injustices that we learned about came in the form of literature like in the style of children's literature from Argentina, which we learned that they were banned in their country because it went against government ideology. All this caught my attention that I decided to continue studying more about literacy.
