Course Reflective Narratives
This course was taught in collaboration with most of the professors in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at CSUMB. Each week had a specific focus which ranged from the different fields of studies in the languages such as literature, culture, or linguistics. We were also shown career opportunities beyond academia through the viewing of the fields in education and translation among others. A major part of this course as well as our path in receiving the bachelor of arts degree is constructing our major portfolio. This website displays our classes taken in fulfillment of major requirements, our résumé, capstone project, service-learning experience, and other important pieces of information of our academic journey. Through working on this project, I was able to fulfill MLO 6 in our creation of the digital ePortfolio which is the website that you are viewing. Instructions on navigating the digital world in the two department fields were shown in different seminars such as general research practices which could be transferred to any of our classes as well as our final research project. Beyond the scope of learning about all of the different opportunities that we can utilize having our degrees, another great outcome of this class was getting to know other people in not only the Spanish program but also the Japanese program. I find myself not limited to just my major in terms of peers that I talk to so knowing that the department emphasizes the importance of community assures me that I am in the right place. I will be building upon the skills learned in this class in SPAN 300 (Pre-Capstone for Spanish Majors) taken Fall 2022 and WLC 400 (WLC Major Capstone. Additionally, I will be updating my ePortfolio after completing every class to detail my progression in learning throughout the program.
